The advertisement project was a great learning experience on learning what it takes to produce a print ad, and getting harsh feed back from the consumer. The project exposed how hard it is to actually produce a good advertisement that will pop to the consumers eye and reel them in to have interest in buying the product your trying to sell them. In my groups jean print advertisement we used a method from Arthur Asa Berger’s book Ads, Fads, and Consumer Culture. We in particular used chapter four, “Running it up a flagpole to see if anyone salutes”, in this chapter Berger says choose a way you want to do an advertisement and do it. As we began to determine where we going to hold the photo shoot are first idea was to rock a country themed ad and shoot it at the Horse Stables here at Cal Poly. As soon as we presented the idea to the Project Manager, he shut us down immediately as he brought many faults of that right away such as a terrible back round and how we were going to control the horse since nobody in the group was a horse handler. After that it was back to the drawing board to come up with another idea. We began to ponder on the idea of going to the beach, but realized it’s hard to get a clear and sunny day at the beach, as the sun is critical for lighting in the photo shoot. We then came up with what we thought was a great idea of going to Lacma Lights Museum. When we pitched this idea to our Project Manager he nearly fired us as we were going in a pointless direction with no plan at all. Now we had to pull ourselves together and come up with something good to save us from humiliation. Through great discussion, we determined that we would go to Chapman University to shoot the photos since it’s such a beautiful campus. Our Project Manager agreed with us 100 percent; thank god we saved ourselves and now were pointed in the right direction again.
For the photo shoot we decided to not use models from outside our group, since we didn’t want to deal some preppy unreliable person that is hard to work with. None of us had experienced this first hand, but out Project Manager said what a pain they could be so we strayed from that idea and just used a couple of group members namely Thomas and Daniela as the models for our jeans advertisement. Even at that it was a struggle to get everyone we need there on time to get the photos with decent lighting from the sun as it was a hit or miss sunlight on the day we decided to shoot our photos for the advertisement. Eventually we had everyone there took a numerous amount of photos and then proceeded to the selection of which picture we wanted to use and then the editing of the pictures. From the photo shoot we ended up with a bunch of great photos, which ended up with us just picking which ones were the best for representing our companies jeans to the consumer. Once we had the picture we wanted to use for our 3 page magazine ad, Thomas and I met with the Project Manager and showed him what we had. From the meeting he liked what we had and unexpectedly to us some of the photos he thought we just perfect we had never thought of use to begin with. In a whole the Project Manager gave us some good advice and got the group pointed in a better direction. After we had considered the feedback we picked the photos we wanted to use for the ads. Now it was Daniela was up to bat, as she was the editor. The editing process was rather difficult do to bad communication between the photographer and editor.
