Michael is a 56 year old male who lives alone in a small tin shed in the middle of the bush in central Queensland. He has no children, no partner and lives by himself. During the day he spends his time sleeping on the couch or doing chores around the property. If he isn’t asleep, he requires a stimuli to remain occupied. When he was a young boy, he was a very calm child with a great sense of humour. His physical health was perfect with good energy levels. He felt that the only way to control the voices in his head was to smoke marijuana on a regular basis to achieve a sense of calm. His father was diagnosed with depression at 75 and his mother had a tendency to become very depressed during stressful situations. Since the family had a history of depression there was probable that he had been experiencing depression but due to the abuse of marijuana, he became increasingly more emotionally and mentally unstable.
The psychological characteristic of the Biopsychosocial model include the person’s outlook on life, thoughts and how the illness influenced the person psychologically. Michael had a great attitude to life before he became sexually abused as a child. His attitude to life now is increasingly negative to this day. He feels the world around him is against him. He believed that everyone around him were spies and that were plotting against him. The environment around him is interpreted as a cruel place and he wishes that he wasn’t living.
