Career Research Paper

Introduction
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you,” is a quote by the famous poet, Maya Angelou. Writing, to me, is something you do alone. It is a profession for introverts who have a story to tell, but don’t want to make eye contact while doing so. I have a story to tell, my story. Therefore, the career of my selection was an author/writer. Thanks to the fine art of writing, people from different eras such as William Shakespeare of the Renaissance to Platus of Ancient Spain to Contemporary writers such as J.D Salinger, all have had the chance to share their tales and stories that vary from a wide spectrum of subjects. If you are an author, you will be ...view middle of the document...

Currently, it is under the direction of April Gregerson, the principal. A few of the electives that I am interested in taking relate to Art, History, Language, and Psychology. As a perspective author, I want to be knowledgeable in a wide array of topics. Authors are expected to be interesting, self-disciplined, determined, and innovative individuals. I hope that Delano High can set me up to fit the criteria of an author. High school is also where we are expected to mature and grow up, but I don’t think really anyone “grows-up.” We act in a certain way since we’re expected to act that certain way, but deep inside, we still remain forever young. I really want to experience new things and experiences at Delano High and make my years there worthwhile. A lot of people say that your years in high school are some of the best years in your life, but I believe that it all comes down to you. I hope that my time at Delano High School will take me out of my comfort zone and teach me, lead me to do things that I would have never believed that I could ever accomplish.

Higher Education: Columbia University of New York
Deciding on a college/university/institute took much thought and research. I narrowed it down to two extremely prestigious schools: UC Berkeley and Columbia University of New York. In the end, I chose Columbia University due to their dedication and passion to teaching the fine arts of Dance, Visual Arts, Film, Architecture, Art History, Music, Art Initiative, Theatre, but mainly because of their renowned writing program in Literary Arts. The university of my choice lies in the heart of New York City, specifically Manhattan. The acceptance rate of Columbia is 7.4% and to even have the chance to get in, it is required that all applicants have a 1200+ on the SATs, 4 years of English/Literature and 3 years in Mathematics, Science, and History. You will also be required to have a GPA of 3.00 at the minimum to be accepted. The student demographics are as follows: Caucasian 33%, Pacific Islander 19%, Hispanic/Latin 15%, African-American 12%, and the remainder of the statistics are unavailable. Columbia University is split with the gender or students that attend there with 53% of them male and the 47% of them female. The yearly tuition for Columbia would total up to approximately $63,923, but half of the students there receive financial aid. Some clubs and activities I would like to participate in are Feminist Thought, Film Festival, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, The Artist Society, and several blogs they have there for students to operate. The majors I would like to partake in are Creative Writing, Psychology, and Linguistics. One lecture they have there is called Life Writing. Short Prose Forms, The Peripheral Writer, and Outsider Writing are all provided in terms of seminars. Some master classes they have available are entitled Narrative Epistemology, Total Changes in Direction: Reinventing Your Style, and Dialogue in Translation. Columbia...
