According to recent studies, when it comes to getting your dream job, looks do matter. Statistics show that if you are good looking you probably have an advantage over the average looking person. When someone is viewed as attractive, they are usually assumed to have a number of positive social traits and are looked at as smarter. This may or may not be true. Anyone would agree that being good-looking really does have its advantages, studies show attractive students get more attention and higher evaluations from their teachers, good-looking patients get more personalized care from their doctors, and handsome criminals receive lighter sentences than less attractive convicts, but recent debates ...view middle of the document...

In my personal experience applying for jobs I have noticed time and time again that potential employers are looking for attractive people. A few years ago I applied to be a cocktail waitress at Bondi Beach Bar in old town. With the resume, they also requested to send a headshot. If they were hiring people solely based on experience, why would they need to see what I looked like in order to consider me for the job. When I asked my manager, at the time I was serving at Olive Garden, he told me that a bar doesn’t want ugly people working for them and they want to see what you look like before wasting their time with setting up an interview. Seems unfair and completely ridiculous but this is what I’ve found to be true time and time again. This far in my life I have mostly dealt with jobs in the serving and bartending industry and at almost every job I have noticed that I am usually surrounded by good-looking co-workers.
