Learning: what is punishment and does it really work? Abstract This article makes an attempt to research an influence of the negative stimuli on the outcome of learning. Learning can be describes, as a process of creating desired behavioural patterns and suppressing undesired patterns. Because of the nature of the topic most experimental data are available from researches that used simpler organisms such as rats and mouses when it would be immoral, illegal, or simply inconvenient to use people. Punishment can be viewed as a special case of motivation and thus should be considered in a broader context of different motivation mechanisms. This article supports an idea that because punishment by nature is a strong stimulus it can be used effectively for learning simple tasks and when it is used with proper timing, but it?s effectiveness is doubtful when it comes to learning complex or difficult tasks. But we can never assume that findings from animal research apply to human beings and any research findings using animals must first be checked out with people. That is why the results of this article must be used with caution when it comes to applying it to teach people._____________________________________________________________________ Introduction What is Learn?
