Love At First Sight Is Not Real

1016 words - 5 pages

Love at first sight is often played upon in many movies like 21 First Dates, where Adam Sandler meets Drew Barrymore and he has to make her fall in love with him everyday however, in reality it’s close to impossible to meet the man of your dreams when there are over 2 billion men in the world. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo falls in love with Juliet, well “at first sight”. But, love at first sight isn’t exactly real because in the play, two people tell Romeo and Juliet to be mindful of there actions. This is shown when Friar Laurence tells Romeo multiple times to love moderately and when Juliet’s Nurse threatens Romeo to not be leading Juliet on. But, to sum it all up, the Friar, in this scene, just thinks Romeo is acting quick on impulse instead of taking time to get to know and love Juliet and her personality. The only person who seems to truly know Juliet is her two faced Nurse, who also has something to say to her and Romeo.
Later in a street, Juliet’s Nurse shows up with Peter to talk to Romeo. She bitterly tells Romeo that Juliet is too young to have her heart broken by a man leading her into a fool’s paradise. No man (emphasis on man) can love a young innocent child who is still learning what love is. Even, the nurse doubts the seriousness of Romeo’s “love” and “passion” for Juliet, who is only 13 years old at this time. In the play, the nurse says, “What she bid me say, I will keep to myself; but first let me tell ye, I ye should lead her into a fool’s paradise, as they say, it were a very gross kind of behavior, as they say; for the gentle woman is young” (II. IV.151-155). Juliet’s nurse seems to know love at first sight isn’t real; why doesn’t Juliet know? The answer is simply Juliet is too young to know what love feels like. Nurse doesn’t want her baby girl to get hurt so she has to ensure that Romeo is actually interested in Juliet. But, we all know Romeo likes her because of her looks instead of her personality because all Romeo talks about is how pretty Juliet is. When Juliet pretends to be dead at the end of the play (the Friar gives her viol to make her look and feel dead so she can get out of marrying Paris against her will) Romeo only cares about how beautiful Juliet still is after she ”died”. He didn’t even...
