My Best Experience Essay

798 words - 4 pages

I chose my best experience over my worst experience since it changed me and made me the person I am today. Don’t get me wrong, my worst experience changed me as well. It just didn’t make me the person I am today. Before this experience, I was really unsure of who I was and who I wanted to become. I was still deciding who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do in, and with my life. In a way I was just like Stephanie Sheppard. In the essay Sheppard states “When she was questioned about who she was she could not come up with an answer.” When people asked me who I was I really couldn’t give them a straight answer because I was unsure myself. No matter what you go through in life, good or bad, there will always be people there saying something about what you do. In this paper, I will discuss the best experience in my life so far. This was the best experience in my life so far because I overcame obstacles, did the best I could, and made myself proud.

Everybody said that would be the most difficult year, but I didn’t think it would be that difficult. I tried my hardest to get good grades like I did my freshman and sophomore year. Due to the grades I got, people told me that I wouldn’t graduate high school or go to college. I made it my business to get the grades up that were just “acceptable”. Just how it seemed that Stephanie was tired of the life she led, I felt the same way. I was tired of people telling me that I couldn’t do something. The people who were discouraging me the most was some of my family. Those are the people you think would be right behind you. Yet, it wasn’t like that for me. Some of my family encouraged me because they didn’t want me to live how they are living and I honestly think some discouraged me because they didn’t want me living better than them.
We had moved to a different city my sophomore year if high school. I was late to school a couple of times, but I still did the work I needed to pass my classes. I was always thinking about what people were saying about me and to me. There were people lifting me up and people putting me down. I listened to all of them, but I listened to the negative people more because they made me stronger. Their negative words motivated me and made me push myself to do the best I could. My teachers were constantly on me about my work because they knew I was smart and that I could do better. I always thought I was doing the best I could, when there is always room to improve.
I can honestly say this experience showed me how it is to get knocked down and get right back up stronger than ever. I was able to see how negative words can push a person to greatness. Without negative people around, no one would know if they should being doing better or not. Also, without negative people, I wouldn’t be able to go forward. I would just be able to go backwards or stay in the same place because I wouldn’t know if I was doing something wrong. When people criticized me I didn’t want to take their advice or criticism. I thought I knew what I was doing, even if the criticism was from my teachers. I grew out of that because I knew that they were just trying to help me do better in school and in life as an individual. I would very much rather continue going forward than staying in the same place or going backwards.
