This form of music doesn’t have any restrictions and can be staged everywhere. But the most places it can be seen performed is at the fairs or at weddings. Dohori involves one team of men and another of women. Each group consists of not more than five members and they all should be dressed accordingly to the other. The musical conversation begins with a question usually from the boys and girls follow the question with a quick response. Either group expresses the love or feelings to the other group through the songs and receives a satirical response. The primary topics includes love, relationships and marriage. The lyrics and all situational and are not very definite. But like Ghazal, to make it sound right, the endings of the line should rhyme. The contest can last for a long time. Some Dohori lasts for a day or even for a week. How long it lasts depends on the quick thinking ability of the competing players. The singing usually kicks off in the evening and ends at dawn. The entire night is celebrated with dance, food and drinks. Madal, hand drum,...
