Organizational Behavior TrendsTrends, commonly referred to as fads, are known influences of behavior among many individuals. Such trends in individual behavior are linked to the trends in organizational behavior, which influence and affect an entire organization. The awareness of organizational behavioral trends is essential in maintaining a high level of behavioral balance. According to Schermerhorn, Hunt, and Osborn (2005), authors of Organizational Behavior, "When managers fail to monitor their environments [and] recognize important trends . . . their organizations may slowly suffer and lose their competitive edge" (p. 489). The influence of ethics on decision-making and the impact of technology on work-related stress are trends associated with organizational behavior. A complete evaluation of these trends is critical to understanding their total affects.Regardless of the simplistic appearance of many circumstances, ethics surrounds every aspect of decision-making, especially decisions relative to the business environment. Individual ethics stem from morals, values and beliefs that are near and dear to ones heart. Similarly, business ethics stem from the mission and vision of the organization. Not all organizations share the same missions and visions. However, the ethical standards set by organizations may have similar aspects. Ethical standards within organizations generally consist of words such as honesty, integrity, equality, fairness, and respect. Often individuals combine their own ethical beliefs with the ethical standards of the organization.Societal influences on the morals and beliefs of individuals are reflective upon the moralistic and ethical values of an organization. For those individuals whose ethical standards have been lowered, what was once unaccepted is now accepted. On the other hand, standards are increased by many individuals resulting in the once accepted now being unaccepted. Such trends in individual ethics are largely influential in the ethics of many decisions in business. With each rise and fall in ethical standards, organizational behavior must be resolute in its ethical standing. This trend in the influence of ethical decision-making is changing by whom, when, where, and how decision-making is accomplished (Schermerhorn et al, 2005, p. 442).
