Restoration: Tractors And Sayings Essay

1054 words - 4 pages

In the our language we have so many sayings that are over used and have lost their meaning. Everyone is always quick to say things like, "Nothings over until it's over" and "Live life to the fullest." Another saying that is always thrown around is, "You never know what you have until it is gone." This saying is one that struck a new and very intense chord in my life the summer of 2003.Alex Partridge was a guy who everyone knew because he was outgoing, fun, and always the center of attention. We were only one year a part in school. Alex was very tall and skinny, and extremely good looking. His skin was naturally dark; he looked like his was Hispanic, but was not. I do not think I ever remember seeing him without his Oakley sunglasses propped on top of his head. We spent a lot of time together. We were both in Future Farmers of America, and we restored a tractor together. I considered him my friend and always knew we would stay close no matter what. Alex was a part of my life that I took for granted, thinking he would always be with me.On August 19th it was just a normal day of work. I was in a resident's room and I got paged to come to the front desk. It was a little weird that I got paged to the office, but I just thought my boss needed to talk to me. My friend, Jessica, was standing in the office door crying. My stomach just dropped. I really did not know what to think. My boss told me we could go in her office so we could talk. I sat down, and Jessica said that we had to talk as soon as I got off work. I was confused, and did not want her to leave until she told me why she was so upset. As we were sitting in my boss's office, my mother called and said I needed to get home soon as possible. My first thought was that someone in my family was hurt. My boss let me go home, and my Jessica went with me. When I pulled into the drive way, I was so nervous. I just did not know what to think. As I walked into the house, I could see that my mom and sister were both crying. So I said, "Would someone tell me what is going on?" That day I wished that my mom would have never told me what she had told me.My mom said that Alex had gotten into a major car accident. The first thing I asked was if he was dead. My mom said yes. I felt like I was going to faint. I could not say anything. I was speechless. Alex was one of a kind, and I just could not believe he was gone. Jessica and I went over to his house to see how his dad was. Scott, Alex's dad, was just torn up. I really did not know what to say. What was there to say? When I was sitting at Alex's house the cops came. I really do not...
